Motivated Group Walks 1600 Miles - CHIP Program

BREWSTER ----- CHIP (Coronary Health Improvement Project) completed its sixth program on May 12th.
The program, administered by Dr. Keith Hanson and supported by the Okanogan Douglas Hospital, enlightens people through five weeks of learning on how to live healthy by choice, not by chance. A total of 19 participants, five alumni and 14 new, took advantage of this life changing experience recently.
As a group, over 140 pounds was lost. Each night of the class, tasty food samples, food demonstrations and video lectures were enjoyed by the group. Other highlights included special presentations by healthcare professionals from Brewster, Chelan and Wenatchee.
Blood tests taken at the beginning and end of the program revealed an average drop of 36 points in cholesterol levels. Several participants dropped more than 60 points.
And, to be healthy, you’ve got to exercise. So, each night the results from the “walks” were recorded onto a map of the Northwest. Amazingly, the group logged enough miles to walk to Billings, Montana and back through Yellowstone Park for a total of 1600 miles.
