Hospital Guild Hosts Annual Pot Luck
The Okanogan Hospital Guild planned a year end pot luck party in the hospital courtyard on Tuesday, June 21 to celebrate another year of great activities but the sudden rain moved them into the hospital’s dining room. It didn’t dampen the spirits of the group at all.
The Guild conducts two major fundraisers each year. The craft show/ bake sale is held in December and the noteworthy Easter Basket sale in the spring. Both events produce revenue that is funneled into the hospital with a mission of making the patient’s stay at the hospital more pleasant. In the past, purchase of linens for the hospital, a chair for the mammography department, a computer for the ICU, laboratory equipment, etc. have been made.
This year, the Guild completed a total renovation of the hospital’s chapel. New carpet, paint and furniture turned the quiet sanctuary into a showplace. Also, the purchase of a heavy duty wheelchair was accomplished. The Guild also works with the American Red Cross and American Legion to conduct blood drives.
At the May meeting, the members voted to prepare a professional cookbook with the purpose of generating enough money to renovate on of the patient rooms in the hospital. Members are now in the process of collecting recipes for the book. If you have a special recipe or two and would like to share, contact Laura Jameson, Brenda White or Dee Bering. Deadline for submission of recipes is Wednesday, July 20th. Cookbooks will be available in plenty of time for Christmas gifts.
The Guild wishes to thank all the people who support the fundraisers. Membership in the Guild is open to anyone. Meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month (Sept.-June) at 7PM in the hospital’s dining room.
