“Outstanding Rural Health Practitioner Award”
James Lamberton, DO, longtime orthopedic surgeon in Brewster and surrounding areas, was recently presented with the Outstanding Rural Health Practitioner Award for 2006 by the Washington Rural Health Association.
Dr. Lamberton was nominated for the award by Okanogan Douglas Hospital’s Sandy Walter, Chief Operations Officer, along with Dale Polla, Chief Executive Officer. The award was presented to Lamberton at a luncheon in recognition of Doctor’s Day on Wednesday, March 29th as he was unable to accept the prestigious award at the Washington Rural Health Conference held in Spokane on March 23rd.
In Walter’s nomination letter, she stated, “The citizens of our community have relied on Dr. Jim’s services for two decades. Actually, Lamberton’s practice extends to five communities ---- Okanogan Douglas Hospital (Brewster), Mid-Valley Hospital (Omak), North Valley Hospital (Tonasket) Grand Coulee Community Hospital (Grand Coulee) and Ferry County Hospital (Republic). He’s accumulated more than 400,000 miles making his rounds. Dr. Jim also provides ER call to our hospital and is currently the only orthopedic surgeon providing this service.”
Walter also added she received letters supporting the nomination from the other four hospitals served by Lamberton, former ODH administrator Howard Gamble and a letter signed by more than half of the ODH staff.
In accepting the award, Lamberton said “This award represents the dedication and support of many people I work with …. a talented team of healthcare providers as well as many ancillary people who all contribute to making my practice successful. My family and particularly my wife, Judy, have taken second place more times than I would like to think in my effort to meet the orthopedic needs of our community.”
Dr. Lamberton feels strongly that “We have every reason to be proud of our rural health care facilities as we strive to not only be as good as colleagues in the city but to surpass their delivery of health care with our ‘small town’ caring attitudes.”
Dr. Lamberton may be reached at Caribou Trail Orthopedics in Brewster.
