| Position Description: | Pharmacist: Directs the overall operations of the hospital’s pharmacy as it relates to compounding and dispensing medications following prescriptions issued by physicians or other authorized medical practitioners. Duties include:
· Strategic planning - assess the health care environment and identifying opportunities to improve medication use and medication use system.
· Management of medication use system – maintain and update drug protocols within the hospital; ensure medications reach patients in correct dosage form and strength; counsel patients on the effects, dosage and route of administration of their drug treatment; collaborate with other health care professionals regarding drug queries.
· Quality and improvement – ensure quality outcomes through performance improvement activities.
· Drug utilization management – Advise nurses and physicians on alternative treatments available; approve and monitor every stage of medication therapy to improve all aspects and reduce risk of drug-related problems.
· Information and technology management – Maintain and update hospital formulary drug information; oversee implementation of new information systems that support patient care (electronic health records, computerized prescriber order entry system, smart pumps).
· Drug supply chain management – Oversee all pharmaceutical procurement, receiving, security, inventory control and distribution policies including methods of waste disposal; monitor and audit controlled substance usage as well as diversion prevention within the hospital facility; provide provisions for preparedness of the drug supply during emergencies and disasters.
· Financial management – develop budget aligned with objectives and monitor financial performance and expenses; monitor patient charge reconciliation account to ensure accurate and timely recording of revenue capture.
· Personnel management – supervise approximately 3 employees (including pharmacist interns, pharmacy technicians and assistants); determine appropriate number and types of staff required; provide training and performance review.
· Regulatory and accreditation compliance – ensure compliance with all federal, state and local regulatory and accreditation requirements related to the facility, personnel and medication.
· Leadership – acts as head of the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee and represents the pharmacy on all relevant committees of the hospital leaders. |

 | The above wage range reflects the minimum, midpoint and maximum hourly rate for this position. New employees are hired between the minimum and midpoint of this range. The initial wage offered will be based on qualifications and experience. |
